History of Shady Shores
In 1912, there was a school called Shady Shores Independent School. In the mid-1920s, a builder named John William Franck created a fishing camp. It had about ten small wooden cabins. This camp was on the north side of Lake Dallas. He wanted it to be a fun place for people from Dallas to visit on weekends.
In the 1930s, many of these fishing camps were replaced. People started building permanent homes instead. Some of these old homes are still standing today.
Growth and Incorporation
The community grew, and in 1932, a new neighborhood called Shady Shores began to be built. In the late 1950s, Lake Dallas was made much bigger. It is now known as Lewisville Lake.
In 1960, the leaders of the community decided to make it an official town. This was mainly to avoid being taken over by the nearby city of Denton. The new town took the name of the Shady Shores neighborhood. Until 2000, the town got money for things like road repairs and police services from building permits and donations. After 2000, they started collecting taxes.
