Shalvey is a suburb located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is about 48 kilometres (30 miles) west of the main Sydney central business district. Shalvey is part of the City of Blacktown local government area. It is also included in the larger Greater Western Sydney region.
Shalvey's History
Shalvey got its name from a main road in the area. This road was named after a man called Patrick Shalvey. He lived from 1866 to 1962. Patrick Shalvey owned a lot of land here. He also had a special place called an abattoir. This was where animals were prepared for his butcher shops in the city.
Homes in Shalvey
Many homes in Shalvey were built by the NSW Department of Housing. These houses were mostly built during the 1960s and 1970s. A lot of them were built in a style called "terrace complexes." Over time, many of these government-built homes are being sold to private owners. As this happens, these older houses are being replaced. New, modern homes are being built instead. These new homes are similar to those you might see in other parts of Sydney.
