Shane Brandon McMahon (born January 15, 1970) is an American businessman and professional wrestler. He is famous for his time in WWE, a major wrestling company.
Shane is the son of Vince McMahon, who also ran WWE. This makes Shane a fourth-generation wrestling promoter in the McMahon family. He started working for WWE (then called WWF) when he was just 15 years old. He began by filling merchandise orders in the warehouse.
Over time, Shane took on many roles. He was a referee, a show producer, an announcer, and eventually a wrestler. Behind the scenes, he became a top executive for WWE's global media. As a wrestler, he has won several championships, including the European Championship, the Hardcore Championship, and the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. He also won the WWE World Cup in 2018.
In 2004, he started his own company, which is now called Ideanomics. He is the executive chairman there. Shane left WWE in 2009 but returned in 2016. He was a big part of WWE shows until 2020. He has wrestled a few times since then, with his last match at WrestleMania 39.

Shane's Wrestling Career
Early Years in WWE (1988–1997)
Shane McMahon first appeared on WWE shows as a referee. His referee name was Shane Stevens. He was a referee at the first-ever Royal Rumble match in 1988. In 1990, he was the first person to walk out and greet the fans at WrestleMania VI.
Shane stopped being a referee and started working behind the scenes. At WrestleMania VIII, he tried to break up a fight between wrestlers. He mostly worked backstage, helping to launch WWE's official website in 1997.
The Corporation Storyline (1998–2000)
Shane became a regular character on WWE shows in 1998. This was during the "Attitude Era." He was part of the story where his father, Vince, was feuding with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Shane often supported his father.
He also worked as a commentator for wrestling shows. Later, Shane turned against his father. He signed Stone Cold Steve Austin to a contract after Vince had made Austin a referee. At Survivor Series, Shane officially joined a group called The Corporation. This group was led by his father.
In 1999, Shane won the European Championship from X-Pac. He kept the title at WrestleMania XV with help from his friends, the Mean Street Posse, and Triple H. Shane then "retired" the title, saying he wanted to be an "undefeated champion." He later gave the title to another wrestler, which brought it back into use.
After WrestleMania, Shane took control of The Corporation for a short time. He teamed up with The Undertaker and the Ministry of Darkness to form the Corporate Ministry. Later, it was revealed that Vince McMahon was behind this whole plan. Shane and Vince won a ladder match at King of the Ring to get full ownership of WWE back.
In 1999, Shane was named "Rookie of the Year" by Pro Wrestling Illustrated. However, he said he wouldn't accept it, saying the award was "for the boys, not me."
Shane then started a storyline where he didn't approve of his sister, Stephanie McMahon, dating wrestler Test. Shane and his friends tried to make Test's life difficult. At SummerSlam, Shane lost a match to Test. This meant he had to accept Test and Stephanie's relationship. Shane then became Test's ally.
Later, Shane was attacked by Triple H and D-Generation X (DX). After this, Shane and the other McMahons disappeared from TV for a while.
Shane returned in 2000, trying to help Big Show defeat The Rock. This led to a big match at WrestleMania 2000. In that match, each wrestler had a McMahon family member in their corner. Shane was with Big Show. Shane later teamed up with other wrestlers, including Chris Benoit, and won the Hardcore Championship. He lost the title to Steve Blackman at SummerSlam after falling 50 feet through the stage.
The Alliance Storyline (2001–2002)
In 2001, Shane started another storyline against his father, Vince. This time, it was because Vince was trying to divorce Linda McMahon. During this time, a rival wrestling company, World Championship Wrestling (WCW), was sold. Shane surprised everyone by buying WCW himself!
Shane defeated his father at WrestleMania X-Seven in a Street Fight. At Backlash, Shane wrestled Big Show in a Last Man Standing match. Shane won after jumping from a high scaffolding onto Big Show.
Shane then started a feud with Kurt Angle. They had a Street Fight at King of the Ring. It was a very tough match, with Shane being thrown through glass. Angle eventually won the match.
Shane then led his WCW wrestlers against his father's WWE wrestlers. He teamed up with Paul Heyman and wrestlers from Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). His sister, Stephanie McMahon, also joined them. They called themselves The Alliance. Their goal was to put WWE out of business.
The big "Invasion" storyline ended at Survivor Series. Shane's team lost to the WWE team. The next night, Vince publicly fired both Shane and Stephanie from WWE. Shane accepted it, saying he lost to the better team. Shane then left TV for almost two years.
Return to WWE (2016–2024)
"Best in the World" (2018–2019)
Shane returned to WWE in 2016. In November 2018, at the Crown Jewel event, Shane replaced The Miz in the finals of the WWE World Cup. He quickly defeated Dolph Ziggler to win the tournament. After this, Shane started calling himself the "Best in the World."
The Miz wanted to form a tag team with Shane. Shane finally agreed, and they won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at the Royal Rumble. However, they lost the titles the next month. After losing again, Shane attacked The Miz and his father.
Shane and The Miz had a match at WrestleMania 35. Shane won after both men fell from a high platform. Shane continued to feud with The Miz, defeating him again in a Steel Cage Match at Money in the Bank.
At the same time, Shane also feuded with Roman Reigns. Shane teamed up with Elias and others against Reigns. Shane defeated Roman Reigns at Super ShowDown with help from Drew McIntyre. Shane and McIntyre later lost to Reigns and The Undertaker.
Shane then started a new feud with Kevin Owens. Owens didn't like how much Shane was on TV. Shane lost to Owens at SummerSlam. Later, Shane was fired from WWE in a storyline after losing a ladder match to Owens.
Part-Time Appearances (2020–2024)
After being away for ten months, Shane returned in August 2020. He hosted a segment called "Raw Underground," which was like an unsanctioned fight club. This segment was later canceled. He also appeared at Survivor Series for The Undertaker's retirement ceremony.
In 2021, Shane started a storyline with Braun Strowman. Shane insulted Strowman's intelligence. Shane defeated Strowman in a match on Raw. Strowman then challenged Shane to a Steel Cage match at WrestleMania 37, which Strowman won.
Shane made a surprise return at the 2022 Royal Rumble match. He was one of the last three wrestlers in the match but was eliminated by Brock Lesnar. After this, Shane quietly left the company again.
He returned over a year later at WrestleMania 39 in April 2023. He was supposed to wrestle The Miz but got injured early in the match. Snoop Dogg took his place and won the match. In June 2024, it was reported that Shane was no longer working with WWE.
Shane's Wrestling Style
Shane McMahon is known for his exciting and risky moves. One of his signature moves is called "Coast to Coast." He jumps from the top rope and flies across the ring to kick his opponent. Sometimes he uses a trash can in front of his opponent's face for this move. However, due to safety concerns, he now often does it without the trash can.
He also uses a move called the "Leap of Faith," which is a diving elbow drop from a high place. Shane's punches and footwork are inspired by the famous boxer Muhammad Ali.
