Stephanie Marie McMahon Levesque (born September 24, 1976) is an American businesswoman and retired professional wrestler. She is famous for her many roles in WWE from 1998 to 2023.

Stephanie is the daughter of WWE leaders Vince and Linda McMahon. She is a fourth-generation member of the famous McMahon family in the wrestling world. She started working for WWE when she was 13, modeling T-shirts and other items.

In 1999, she began appearing on WWE television as part of a story with The Undertaker. She had a brief on-screen romance with the wrestler Test. Later, she was in a major storyline where she married Triple H. This led to the creation of the McMahon-Helmsley Faction. She even won the WWF Women's Championship once.

Over the years, she played many roles. She was the on-screen owner of Extreme Championship Wrestling and the general manager of SmackDown. In 2013, she and Triple H formed a powerful on-screen duo called The Authority. They acted as bullying owners who said their decisions were "best for business."

Behind the scenes, Stephanie held important jobs at WWE. She started as an account executive and later became the head writer. She was promoted several times, eventually becoming the company's chief brand officer. In 2022, she briefly became the Chairwoman and co-CEO of WWE after her father retired. She resigned in January 2023 when her father returned to the company.

Early Life and Education

Stephanie Marie McMahon was born in Hartford, Connecticut. She has an older brother named Shane. Her family is proud of their Irish American heritage.

Her family moved to Greenwich, Connecticut, where she grew up. At age 13, she began modeling for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) merchandise catalogs. After graduating from high school in 1994, she went to Boston University. She earned a degree in Communications in 1998 and then started working full-time for the WWF.

Business Career at WWE

Early Roles

McMahon started her business career at WWE as an account executive in the New York office. She also worked as a receptionist and in creative design and TV production. By 2002, she was the director of creative writing. In 2006, she was promoted to Senior Vice President of Creative Writing.

Executive Leadership

In 2007, McMahon became the executive vice president of Creative. She was in charge of the storylines for all WWE television shows and pay-per-view events. She also managed talent, branding, and social media. Under her leadership, the WWE app was launched and became very popular. She also helped create partnerships with organizations like the USO.

Chief Brand Officer

In 2013, WWE promoted McMahon to chief brand officer. In this role, she worked to improve WWE's brand image with advertisers, media partners, and investors. She was also a lead ambassador for the company. She earned over $775,000 in 2013 from her corporate and on-screen roles.

In 2022, McMahon took a leave of absence to focus on her family. However, a month later, she returned as the interim Chairwoman and CEO of WWE. This happened after her father, Vince McMahon, stepped down during an investigation.

Chairwoman and Co-CEO

On July 22, 2022, Vince McMahon retired. He named Stephanie the new Chairwoman and co-CEO, alongside Nick Khan. Her husband, Triple H, took over as the head of WWE creative. On January 10, 2023, Stephanie resigned from WWE after her father decided to return to the company.

Professional Wrestling Career

The McMahon-Helmsley Era (1999–2001)

McMahon first appeared on WWE television in 1999 as the sweet daughter of Vince McMahon. In a storyline, she was stalked by The Undertaker, who tried to marry her in the ring before she was saved by Stone Cold Steve Austin.

She then had an on-screen relationship with Test. They were set to marry, but Triple H revealed he had tricked Stephanie into marrying him in Las Vegas. At first, she seemed to dislike Triple H. But she later joined him, turning into a villain character. This began the "McMahon-Helmsley Era," where she and Triple H were the on-screen owners of the WWF.

During this time, Stephanie won the WWF Women's Championship. She also got involved in a storyline with Triple H and Kurt Angle. She eventually reconciled with her father and brother at WrestleMania 2000.

In 2001, the McMahon family had on-screen disagreements. Stephanie feuded with Trish Stratus and defeated her at No Way Out.

The Invasion and SmackDown General Manager (2001–2003)

McMahon later revealed she had "purchased" Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). She and her brother Shane, who was the on-screen owner of World Championship Wrestling (WCW), merged their rosters to form a group called The Alliance. They battled Team WWF at Survivor Series and lost.

In 2002, Stephanie returned to WWE as the general manager of SmackDown!. This time, she was a fan favorite. She is credited with bringing back the WWE United States Championship and creating the WWE Tag Team Championship. She feuded with her father, Vince, which led to an "I Quit" match between them at No Mercy. Stephanie lost the match and had to step down as general manager. This storyline was created because she was getting married to Triple H in real life.

The Authority (2013–2015)

After several years of making only occasional appearances, McMahon returned to TV regularly in 2013. She and Triple H formed a villainous power couple known as The Authority. They claimed their harsh actions were "best for business" and often targeted popular wrestlers like Daniel Bryan.

This led to a match at SummerSlam against Brie Bella, which Stephanie won after Brie's sister, Nikki, turned on her. The Authority's power was on the line at Survivor Series in a team match against a team led by John Cena. Team Authority lost, and they were removed from power. However, they were brought back a month later.

Raw Commissioner and Final Matches (2016–2018)

In 2016, the WWE brand extension returned. Mr. McMahon named Stephanie the commissioner of the Raw brand, while her brother Shane became commissioner of SmackDown. She appointed Mick Foley as Raw's general manager.

Her on-screen role led to a feud with Ronda Rousey. At WrestleMania 34 in 2018, Stephanie teamed with her husband Triple H in a mixed tag team match against Rousey and Kurt Angle. This was her first-ever WrestleMania match. Stephanie and Triple H lost when she tapped out to Rousey's armbar. After this, she appeared on TV less often.

Recent Appearances (2018–Present)

From 2018 onward, McMahon made sporadic appearances. She announced the first-ever all-women's pay-per-view event, Evolution. She also appeared during the 2019 WWE Draft and at WrestleMania 36.

After her father's retirement in 2022, she returned to SmackDown to thank the fans for their support. She made a surprise return at WrestleMania XL in 2024 to welcome the audience. She also appeared at SummerSlam in August 2024.
