Shankar Lalwani is an Indian politician. He was born on October 16, 1961. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Since May 2019, he has been a Member of Parliament (MP) for Indore. An MP is someone elected to represent people in the Lok Sabha. The Lok Sabha is one of the two houses of the Indian Parliament. Before becoming an MP, he was the chairman of the Indore Development Authority.

Shankar Lalwani was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. His parents are Jamnadas Lalwani and Gouridevi Lalwani. His family belongs to the Sindhi community. They moved to India from Pakistan after the Partition of India.
Education and Family
Lalwani finished his Higher Secondary education in 1978. He then earned a Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) degree. He studied at the Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute in Mumbai. This institute is connected to the University of Bombay.
He married Amita Lalwani on March 10, 1985. They have one son together.
His Political Journey
Shankar Lalwani is currently the Member of Parliament for the Indore area. This area is in Madhya Pradesh. He is known for getting a very large number of votes. In the May 2019 Lok Sabha election, he received over 10 lakh (1 million) votes. This was more votes than any other Lok Sabha member in that election.
Roles He Has Held
- 1994 - 1999: He served as a Corporator for the Municipal Corporation of Indore. A corporator helps manage city services.
- 1999 - 2004: He became the Chairman of the Public Works Department (PWD) for the Municipal Corporation of Indore. The PWD looks after roads and buildings.
- 2004 - 2009: He was the Chairperson of the Municipal Corporation of Indore.
- 2013 - 2018: He served as the Chairperson of the Indore Development Authority. This group helps plan and develop the city.
- May 2019 - present: He was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha.
- September 2019 - present: He became a Member of the Standing Committee on Urban Development. This committee works on city planning and growth.
