Shankar Lalwani was born on October 16, 1961. He is an Indian politician and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP is one of the biggest political parties in India.
Since 2019, Mr. Lalwani has been a Member of Parliament (MP) for Indore. An MP is someone elected by people to represent them in the country's main law-making body, called the Lok Sabha. Before becoming an MP, he was the chairman of the Indore Development Authority, which helps plan and build things in the city of Indore.

Shankar Lalwani was born in Indore, a city in Madhya Pradesh, India. His parents were Jamnadas Lalwani and Gouridevi Lalwani. His family belongs to the Sindhi community. They moved to India from Pakistan after the country was divided in 1947.
He finished his high school studies in 1978. Later, he earned a special engineering degree called a B. Tech from Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute in Mumbai.
In 1985, Shankar Lalwani married Amita Lalwani. They have one son.
His Political Journey
Shankar Lalwani is currently the Member of Parliament for the Indore area in Madhya Pradesh. In the 2019 elections, he received a huge number of votes, more than 10 lakh (which is 1,000,000) votes! This was one of the highest numbers of votes received by any Lok Sabha member in that election.
Roles He Has Held
- 1994 - 1999: He worked as a Corporator for the Municipal Corporation of Indore. A corporator helps manage the city at a local level.
- 1999 - 2004: He became the Chairman of the Public Works Department (PWD) for the Municipal Corporation of Indore. The PWD looks after roads and other public buildings.
- 2004 - 2009: He served as the Chairperson of the Municipal Corporation of Indore. This is a very important role in managing the city.
- 2013 - 2018: He was the Chairperson of the Indore Development Authority. This group plans new buildings and projects in Indore.
- May 2019 - present: He was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha, becoming a Member of Parliament.
- September 2019 - present: He became a member of the Standing Committee on Urban Development. This committee works on making cities better.
