Early Life and Music Journey
Shanti Wintergate was born in Hollywood, California. Her parents were artists and musicians from Victoria, B.C.. She grew up in the mountains of Idaho.
Shanti went to the University of Victoria where she studied acting. As a teenager, she started writing songs and playing the guitar. She performed at local folk festivals. She even traveled through India with her guitar, playing her own songs in small places. Later, she moved to Los Angeles.

Shanti released her first solo album, This Moment, in 2003. This led to her performing at the Vans Warped Tour from 2006 to 2008. Some items related to Shanti were even shown at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
She also went on tours in the US and Europe. In 2010, she toured with other musicians like Kevin Seconds and Greg Attonito. After a short break, Shanti worked with producer Chris Wardman to create her album Stranger Days in 2007. An acoustic version, Stranger Days Stripped, came out in 2008.
Besides music, Shanti has also acted. She appeared in TV shows like CSI:NY. In this show, she played a roller derby girl.
I Went for a Walk and Collaborations
I Went for a Walk is a children's book that Shanti Wintergate wrote. Her husband, Greg Attonito, drew the pictures for it in 2007. The book received good reviews.
In 2007, Shanti and Greg toured places like San Francisco. They read from their book and sang the words with a guitar. In 2011, they even showed their art together at a month-long exhibit in Seattle, Washington.
Shanti has worked with many artists since her solo albums. She was on Greg Attonito's album Natural Disaster in 2011. She also played guitar in recording sessions in Los Angeles. In 2014, her book I Went for a Walk won the Creative Child's Preferred Choice Award.
Play Date: Music for Kids
After touring with their book, Shanti and Greg decided to turn I Went for a Walk into a children's music album. They formed a children's music project called Play Date.
Play Date released their first album, Imagination, in 2012. It received great reviews from NPR Music. The album also won a Parents' Choice Award in 2014. Play Date has performed at big music festivals. They played at ACL Fest in 2013 and Lollapalooza in 2014. In 2015, they released another album called We All Shine.

Shanti Wintergate is married to Greg Attonito. Greg is the lead singer of the punk-rock band, The Bouncing Souls. They often work together on music and art projects. As of 2010, Shanti has a home in Idaho.
