Datuk Sharifah Aini binti Syed Jaafar (born July 2, 1953 – died July 5, 2014) was a famous singer from Singapore and Malaysia. She was known as Biduanita Negara, which means "National Songstress." This special title was also given to the legendary singer Saloma.

Sharifah Aini won her first big singing contest in 1968. It was called "Bintang RTS" and was held by Radio Television Singapore (RTS). She sang a song called "Tiga Malam" and won first place. Many people knew her by her loving nickname, Kak Pah. She was one of the most popular artists to record with EMI Malaysia. Her name is even in the Malaysian Book of Records for her amazing contributions to music.

Early Life and Beginnings

Sharifah Aini was born on July 2, 1953, in a place called Nee Soon in Singapore. She later moved to Malaysia and grew up in Kampung Melayu Majidee, which is in Johor Bahru. This is where her journey in music truly began.

Sharifah Aini had a very long and successful music career. She released many albums over several decades. Her music included traditional songs, pop hits, and evergreen classics. She recorded many songs with EMI Malaysia, a big music company.

From 1970 to 1977, Sharifah Aini released many shorter albums called EPs. These included songs like "Seri Dewi Malam," "Kekasih Pujaan," and "Surat Dari Seberang."

In the 1970s, she released many full albums. Some of these popular albums were "Dari Hati Ke Hati" (1972), "Kenanglah Daku" (1973), and "Sharifah Aini" (1976). She also released "Forever And Ever" in 1977.

Her Legacy and Passing

Sharifah Aini passed away on July 5, 2014. She was 61 years old. She died at Damansara Specialist Hospital in Damansara Utama, Selangor. The cause was lung fibrosis, a lung disease. She was buried at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery in Kuala Lumpur. Sharifah Aini left behind a wonderful legacy of music and performances that continue to be loved by many.
