Muhammad Shariff bin Abdul Samat (born 5 January 1984 – died 10 February 2020) was a professional footballer from Singapore. He played for the national team.
Shariff was the son of Samad Allapitchay, who was also a famous Singaporean footballer. Like his father, Shariff usually played as a centre-back. A centre-back is a defensive player who tries to stop the opposing team from scoring goals.

Shariff's Football Journey
Shariff played for several clubs in the S.League, which is Singapore's top football league. These clubs included Sembawang Rangers FC, Young Lions, and Tampines Rovers FC.
Early Club Career
Shariff joined Tampines Rovers from the Young Lions. He was first a back-up player. However, he soon became a key part of the team in the S-League. In 2010, he moved to Home United FC.
Playing for Admiralty and Tampines
In 2012, Shariff played for Admiralty FC in the NFL Division 2. Later that year, he returned to S.League side Tampines Rovers. He did not play much and left the team at the end of the season.
Time at Woodlands Wellington
On 2 February 2013, Shariff became a player for Woodlands Wellington. He made his first game for them on 5 March 2013. This was an away match against his old club, Home United FC. Shariff played very well in that game. His coach, Salim Moin, said Shariff's strong play helped turn the game around.
Later Club Years
Shariff rejoined Tampines Rovers for the 2014 season. After that, he played for Singapore Recreation Club in 2015. In 2016, he signed with Geylang International. He left the club at the end of that season.
Playing for Singapore
Shariff also represented his country, Singapore, in international matches.
First Call-Ups
In 2008, Shariff was called up to the national team by coach Radojko Avramović. He was part of the squad for games against teams like North Korea and Australia. However, he did not play in those matches.
International Debut
In 2013, Shariff was called up again by coach Bernd Stange. This was because he was playing very well for Woodlands Wellington. He played his first international game on 4 June 2013. He came on as a substitute against Myanmar in a friendly match. This game took place in Yangon.
Life Outside Football
Shariff faced some difficult times in his life.
Personal Challenges
On 10 November 2015, Shariff had an incident with his brother-in-law. He later admitted to causing harm to him. On 24 May 2016, he was sentenced to two weeks in prison for this.
Passing Away
Shariff passed away on 10 February 2020, at the age of 36. He died from a heart attack. He left behind his wife and a four-year-old daughter.
