Shawnee Mound is a small, quiet place in the countryside of Henry County, Missouri. It's not a big city or town, but a community where people live. You can find it about ten miles north of a town called Clinton, right along Missouri Route 13. Another small community, Post Oak, is just three miles north.
The community of Shawnee Mound sits on a raised area of land, like a small hill. On one side, to the east, is Sand Creek. On the other side, to the west, is Honey Creek. Both of these are small streams.
History of Shawnee Mound
Shawnee Mound has a history that goes back many years. A long time ago, from 1855 to 1901, the community had its own post office. This was an important place where people could send and receive letters and packages.
The community got its name from two things. First, it's located in an area called Shawnee Township. Second, there was a natural mound, or small hill, very close to where the first buildings were built. That's how it became known as Shawnee Mound.
