Sheilla Tavares de Castro, born on July 1, 1983, is a famous Brazilian former volleyball player. She is known for being a key player on the Brazilian national team. Sheilla helped her team win two gold medals at the Olympic Games. She retired from playing volleyball on April 9, 2022.

Sheilla's Volleyball Journey

Sheilla Castro played as an opposite spiker for the Brazilian national team. This position is usually for players who are strong attackers. She also played for many different clubs. Her first game for the national team was against Colombia.

Winning Big with Brazil

Sheilla was a huge part of Brazil's success. She was named the "Most Valuable Player" (MVP) at the 2006 FIVB World Grand Prix in Italy. She also won the MVP award again at the 2009 FIVB World Grand Prix in Japan. Brazil won gold medals in both of these events.

In 2011, Sheilla won another MVP award at the Pan-American Cup. Her team also took home the gold medal there. Later that year, she helped Brazil win gold at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico.

Sheilla played in three Olympic Games. She won gold medals with the Brazilian team at both the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Brazil finished in fifth place.

Club Success and Awards

Sheilla also had a fantastic career playing for various clubs around the world. With her club, Sollys Nestlé Osasco, she won the gold medal at the 2012 FIVB Women's Club World Championship. She was also named the MVP and "Best Scorer" at this championship.

In 2013, Sheilla won the "Best Opposite" award at the 2013 Women's South American Volleyball Championship with her national team. They also won the gold medal. In 2014, her club team won a silver medal at the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship.

Sheilla continued to earn individual awards, like "Best Opposite Spiker" at the 2014 FIVB World Grand Prix and the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship. She also won "Best Outside Spiker" at the 2016 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix.

Coming Back to Play

After the 2016 Olympic Games, Sheilla announced she was retiring from the national team. However, in 2019, after not playing for clubs for three years, she decided to return to the national team. She then played in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup and the 2019 Women's South American Volleyball Championship.
