Shelbiana's Railroad History
Shelbiana is home to a large railroad yard operated by CSX. This yard is the second-biggest railroad yard in the entire state of Kentucky. In the past, this yard was part of other famous railroad companies like Chessie System, C & O, and B & O.

From this railroad yard, coal was shipped to many different states across the United States. It even traveled to other countries around the world. This shows how important Shelbiana was in the coal industry.
Community Life in Shelbiana
The Shelbiana post office is a key part of the community. It used to be located close to the railroad yard. However, in the late 1990s, a new road was built. This allowed for a new post office to be constructed near the community of Ford's Branch.

Today, this post office serves about 2,807 people who live in Shelbiana. It handles thousands of packages every year. A woman named Glima Bea Slone Allen was the postmaster for many years. She retired in the early 1980s.

- The Circus Train: Before it closed down, the famous Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus would sometimes stop its train in Shelbiana. This happened when they were traveling to their winter home in Jacksonville, Florida. When they stopped, they would put on special, free shows for the people living nearby.
- The Santa Claus Train: During the Christmas season, a special "Santa Claus train" would pass through Shelbiana. This train traveled through the Appalachia region. It delivered presents to children in the area who might not otherwise receive them.
