Shelly-Ann Camille Brown is a former Canadian bobsledder. She competed in the sport from 2006 until her retirement in 2012. Shelly-Ann is best known for winning a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in the two-woman bobsled event.

Early Life and Education

Shelly-Ann Brown was born on March 15, 1980, in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. Her parents were immigrants from Jamaica. She grew up in Pickering, Ontario, which is close to Scarborough.

Shelly-Ann was very good at track and field. She earned a scholarship to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in the United States. There, she studied biology and later earned a master's degree in educational psychology.

Bobsledding Career Highlights

Shelly-Ann Brown started her bobsledding career in 2006. Bobsledding is a winter sport where teams of two or four people race down a narrow, icy track in a special sled.

World Cup and World Championships

Shelly-Ann quickly became a strong competitor. Her best result in the Bobsleigh World Cup was finishing third. This happened in December 2007 at Lake Placid.

At the FIBT World Championships, her top finish was fifth place. This was in the two-woman event in Altenberg during the 2008 competition.

Olympic Success

The biggest moment of Shelly-Ann's career came at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. She competed in the two-woman bobsled event with her teammate Helen Upperton.

They won a silver medal, which was a huge achievement! Interestingly, the gold medal in the same event was also won by Canadians, Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse. This was a special moment because it was the first time at those Olympics that Canada won two medals in the same event.

Retirement

Shelly-Ann Brown and Helen Upperton both announced their retirement from bobsledding in September 2012. Shelly-Ann had a successful career, earning an Olympic medal for Canada.
