Shelter Cove is a special beach neighborhood. It is located at the southern edge of Pacifica, California. This area is about 17 acres in size. It has seventeen charming rental cottages.
Exploring Shelter Cove
Shelter Cove has always been a fun place to visit. People loved coming here for picnics and beach days. It was a popular spot for tourists from San Francisco, California.
A Look Back in Time
Long ago, Shelter Cove was a stop on the Ocean Shore Railroad. This was a train line that ran along the coast. People would get off the train for a picnic day. A restaurant and bar called the Clipper Ship was also here. It served visitors for many years. This was especially true during the time known as the Prohibition Era (up until the 1940s).
Getting There Today
Getting to Shelter Cove is a bit of an adventure now. In 1983, a big storm hit the area. The main road that led to the cove was washed away. Because of this, you can only reach Shelter Cove by walking on a footpath. You can also get there by boat.
The footpath has had some challenges. Sometimes parts of it fall into the sea. People have worked to keep the path open for everyone. In 2008, the City of Pacifica took action. They wanted to make sure the footpath and hillside were safe. In 2009, permission was given to fix a staircase. This helped people get to the property more easily.
Who Owns Shelter Cove?
Shelter Cove has had a few owners over the years. Since July 1997, Arno Rohloff has owned the area. Before him, Charles (Chuck) Pavka and Mary (Maty) Pavka owned it. They were the owners from the 1960s until 1975.
