Shepherd is a small community in Yellowstone County, Montana, United States. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area defined by the government for counting people, but it's not officially a city or town.
Shepherd is located northeast of Billings, a larger city nearby. In 2020, about 507 people lived in Shepherd. The community was named after R.E. Shepherd, an important person who helped settle the area a long time ago. He owned a company that helped with land and irrigation. The local post office first opened in 1915. Shepherd is a farming community and is close to the Yellowstone River.
