Sherita T. Ceasar is a very important leader in the world of technology. She is a Senior Vice President at Comcast Communications. This means she helps guide how technology is used and planned for the company. She has worked in the telecommunications industry since 1988. This industry deals with how we communicate over long distances, like with phones and the internet. Sherita Ceasar was also the first African American president of the Society of Women Engineers. She held this important role from 1999 to 2000.

Sherita Ceasar's Early Life and Education

Sherita Ceasar grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She went to a special high school that focused on preparing students for technical careers. After high school, she studied at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. She earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Science, in 1981. This was in Mechanical Engineering. She continued her studies and earned a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1984.

Sherita Ceasar's Career Journey

Sherita Ceasar's career began in the defense department at Northrop Grumman. She then moved to Motorola in 1988. At Motorola, she worked on designing parts, making products, and ensuring their quality. She helped build pagers, which were devices used for sending short messages.

Leading the Way at Motorola

Sherita became the Director of Manufacturing at Motorola's Paging Products Group. This was a very high position. She was the highest-ranking Black female engineer in that group. The group had over 10,000 employees around the world.

Moving to New Companies

In 1996, Sherita joined Scientific-Atlanta. She became the Vice President of Quality there. Again, she was the highest-ranking African American at the company. Later, she worked as a vice president and general manager for Charter Communications in Georgia.

Joining Comcast and Innovation

Sherita Ceasar started working at Comcast in 2007. She became the Vice President of product engineering. In 2011, she took on a new role. She became the Vice President of National Video Deployment Engineering for Comcast. In this role, she helped create new services. These included the X1 remote control and cloud DVR. She also helped build the technology needed for these services to work.

Awards and Recognitions

Sherita Ceasar has received many awards for her hard work and leadership.

  • In 1994, she won the Black Engineer of the Year Special Recognition Award.
  • In 1997, she received the Women of Color Technology Award. This award was given during Baltimore's Bicentennial Celebration.
  • She also won the Distinguished New Engineer of the Year award from the Society of Women Engineers.
  • The Illinois Institute of Technology honored her with the Julia Beveridge Award.
  • In 1999, she was added to the Women in Technology Hall of Fame.
  • From 1999 to 2000, she served as president of the Society of Women Engineers. She was the first African American to hold this important position.
  • In 2003, Sherita won a CTAM TAMI Award. This was for creating special courses on advanced digital services.
  • In 2014, she received the Women in Technology Award.
