Shiboprosad Mukherjee (born May 20, 1974) is an Indian film director, writer, and actor. He is well-known for making movies that often talk about important social topics.
He started directing films with Icche, working alongside Nandita Roy. This movie was very popular and received good reviews. Together, they have directed many successful Bengali films. Some of these include Praktan, Bela Seshe, Muktodhara, Accident, Alik Sukh, Ramdhanu, Haami, Konttho, and Gotro.
Shiboprosad is also a partner at Windows Production, a film company. His film Praktan won several National Awards. Another film, Alik Sukh, was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. Early Life and Education
Shiboprosad Mukherjee was born on May 20, 1974, in Baranagar, a town near Kolkata, India. He went to Baranagore Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama High School and later to Hindu School, Kolkata. For his college education, he studied Political Science at Jadavpur University.
Personal Life
In 2016, Shiboprosad Mukherjee married journalist Zinia Sen.
Film and Television Career
Acting Journey
After finishing school, Shiboprosad joined a theatre school to train. He took part in a special project called T.I.E. (Theatre in Education), where he learned from Rudraprasad Sengupta. He also received guidance from famous director Rituporno Ghosh when he worked as a journalist for a film magazine called Anandalok.
His acting career began in 1995 on Zee Bangla with a TV show called "Ekushe Pa." He then acted in other daily TV shows like Janmabhoomi and Ghoom Nei.
Directing and Producing for Television
As a director and producer, Shiboprosad has worked with major TV channels in West Bengal and Bangladesh. He has created more than 10,000 hours of TV programs. He was involved with ETV Bangla from its very beginning, where he helped create and produce many hours of daily shows.
He designed over 50 non-fiction shows for Bengali television. He also created Sreemoti, which was the first women's magazine program on Bengali TV. Many people consider him one of the first to launch reality shows in Bengali television with Ritur Mela Jhoom Tara Ra Ra.
Later, he started his own production company, Windows Production, with his partner Nandita Roy. Together, they have produced many successful non-fiction and fiction programs.

Shiboprosad Mukherjee was greatly inspired by the original Bengali filmmaking styles and culture. He looked up to directors like Prabhat Roy, Tarun Majumdar, and Tapan Sinha.

Film Successes
- Icche was shown in theaters for 125 days. The National Film Archive of India added Icche to its collection for educational purposes. It was also screened at the Indian Panorama Film Festival in major cities.
- Accident was chosen for the Indian Cinema Now Section at the 18th International Kerala Film Festival 2013. It ran in theaters for 50 days.
- Muktodhara was the first Bengali film in ten years to be shown at the Rashtrapati Bhavan (the President's House) for the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. It was a hit and played in theaters for 75 days.
- Alik Sukh premiered at the Marche du Film section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. It was released all over India and was praised by critics and did well commercially. It ran in theaters for 50 days.
- Ramdhanu was also both a commercial success and received good reviews.
- Bela Seshe was released in many cities across India. It became the longest-running Bengali film of the last decade, playing for 217 days in multiplexes and 250 days in total. Famous actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Waheeda Rehman liked the film.
- Praktan became the highest-earning Bengali film of 2016. It won 8 awards at the West Bengal Film Journalist Awards 2016, including Most Popular Film. It also won 5 awards at the 2nd Jio Filmfare Awards 2017 (East).
- Konttho was selected as India's entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.
