Shiloh is a small, quiet community located in Tyler County, West Virginia, United States. It sits right by Middle Island Creek. In the early 1900s, Shiloh even had its own post office.

Shiloh is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a place where people live together, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. It's part of the larger county.
Early Settlers and Family History
The first European settlers arrived in what is now Tyler County around the late 1700s or early 1800s. Back then, this area was part of Ohio County, Virginia.
One of the very first families to settle in Shiloh was the Cornell family. Jacob Cornell and his wife, Druscilla Ankrom, bought land along Middle Island Creek. They started a farm there. This farm was home to at least four generations of the Cornell family. The land stayed in the Cornell family until 1945. This was after Luella Cornell passed away in 1944. A farmhouse belonging to the Cornell family stood on the original land for many years. Sadly, it burned down in the late 1990s. Jacob Cornell and Druscilla Ankrom are still buried on this land today.
Shiloh's Name in Famous Books and Movies
Shiloh is also famous for another reason! The community gave its name to a fictional beagle dog. This dog is the main character in a popular series of children's books. The books are called Shiloh and were written by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor.
Many kids and families love these stories. The first three books in the series were even made into movies. You might have seen the film Shiloh. It's pretty cool that a real place inspired such a well-known story!
