The Story of Shiloh
Marty Meets Shiloh
The movie begins with a young boy named Marty Preston. He finds an abused Beagle puppy. The puppy has run away from its cruel owner, Judd Travers. Judd is a mean old man who hunts with his dogs. He treats them very badly, and Shiloh was the most mistreated.
The puppy follows Marty home. Marty quickly names him Shiloh. However, Marty's strict father, Ray Preston, says Marty cannot keep the dog. Shiloh belongs to Judd, and Ray insists he must go back.
Hiding Shiloh
Marty sadly returns Shiloh to Judd. But soon, Shiloh runs away again and comes back to Marty. Marty knows his father will make him return Shiloh again. So, Marty decides to hide Shiloh. He finds an old, abandoned shed on a hidden hill. He works hard to fix it up for Shiloh to stay in.
Marty secretly visits Shiloh every day. He brings him food and plays with him. He and Shiloh become very close friends. But secrets are hard to keep. Marty's mother, Louise Preston, soon discovers Shiloh. She sees Marty and the dog together.
One day, a German Shepherd from the Baker family attacks Shiloh. Marty is very scared. He quickly takes Shiloh to his father for help. Ray helps Marty take Shiloh to a vet. Luckily, Shiloh recovers quickly from his injuries.
A Difficult Deal
After Shiloh gets better, Ray says it's time to return him to Judd. Marty begs his father to let him keep Shiloh. He explains how badly Judd treats the dog. Ray agrees to let Shiloh stay until he is fully recovered. He tries not to get too attached to the dog.
But Ray's heart starts to soften. One night, he gives Shiloh a treat when he thinks Marty is asleep. Ray begins to understand how much Marty loves Shiloh. Marty then decides to make a deal with Judd. He asks Judd if he can work for him. In exchange, Marty wants to keep Shiloh forever.
Judd agrees to the deal. Marty works very hard for several days at Judd's place. He is excited to finally have Shiloh as his own pet.
Shiloh's Happy Ending
After all of Marty's hard work, Judd changes his mind. He says there were no witnesses to their deal. He claims the agreement isn't valid without them. Marty is very upset and argues with Judd. He worked so hard for nothing!
Marty continues to work for Judd, sometimes even without pay. He keeps telling Judd that he wants Shiloh. For a few days, Marty gets to keep Shiloh. But then, Judd comes to take the dog back again. Marty and his father, Ray, both try to convince Judd to let Shiloh stay.
Judd then tries to take Shiloh by force. Ray steps in and they fight. Judd manages to grab Shiloh and drives away in his truck. Marty is heartbroken, knowing Shiloh will be abused again. As Judd drives, he sees Marty and Shiloh in his mirror. He seems to think about everything. Finally, Judd stops his truck and lets Shiloh go. Shiloh runs straight into Marty's arms.
The movie ends with Sheena Easton singing the song "Are There Angels." The credits show Marty happily walking with Shiloh by his side.
