Shilpa Architects is an international company that designs buildings and plans cities. It was started in 1979 in Chennai, India by Sheila Sri Prakash. This company was the first architecture firm in India to be founded independently by a woman.
Today, Shilpa Architects has offices in Chennai, Bangalore, and Mumbai in India. They also have offices in New York City and Chicago in the United States. They help design whole city areas and big plans for how cities grow. You can see their designs at places like Cholamandal Artists' Village and Mahindra World City, New Chennai. The company is known for using ideas from traditional building styles that are good for the environment. They also care about people and nature when they design.
Sheila Sri Prakash, who started Shilpa Architects, is an important expert on design. She is part of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Design Innovation.
