Shin Kanemaru (born September 17, 1914 – died March 28, 1996) was an important Japanese politician. He was a big name in Japan's politics from the 1970s to the early 1990s. He also served as the Director-General of the Japan Defense Agency for a time.

Early Life and Education
Shin Kanemaru was born in a place called Suwa village in Yamanashi Prefecture on September 17, 1914. This area is now known as Minami-arupusu city.
He went to the Tokyo University of Agriculture to study. After he finished his studies, he became a teacher.
Political Career and Public Service
Before becoming a politician, Kanemaru joined the army for a short time. He served as a sergeant in the Kwantung Army from 1937 to 1938. He left the army because he became ill and went back to Japan.
After his military service, he started working in business. He was involved in making sake (a Japanese drink), concrete, and even souvenirs.
Later, he became a member of the Liberal Democratic Party. This is one of Japan's main political parties. He was also part of a group within the party led by Noboru Takeshita.
From 1977 to 1978, he held an important government job. He was the Director-General of the Japan Defense Agency. This role is similar to a Minister of Defense.
Later Years and Challenges
In 1992, Shin Kanemaru faced serious questions about money. Authorities found a very large amount of money, including special bonds and gold, stored at his home. This discovery led to his resignation from his political roles. He passed away in Yamanashi on March 28, 1996, when he was 81 years old.
