Where is Shingobee Bay?
Shingobee Bay is about three miles south of a town called Walker. Walker is the main town, or "county seat," for Cass County. The bay is on the southern side of Leech Lake. The land next to the bay is part of Shingobee Township. Some of this land belongs to the Leech Lake Tribe of Ojibwe people.
A major road, Minnesota State Highway 371, crosses the northern part of Shingobee Bay. This is where Shingobee Bay connects to a bigger area called Walker Bay.
What is Miller Bay?
Miller Bay is a smaller section that extends from Shingobee Bay. It's on the northeastern side of Shingobee Bay. A fairly wide channel connects Miller Bay to Shingobee Bay. You can see this channel from Christmas Point Road, which goes around Miller Bay.
There isn't a public spot to launch boats or access the water directly in Miller Bay. However, you can easily see it from the nearby roads. The Paul Bunyan State Trail is also very close to Miller Bay. This trail is popular for biking, walking, and other fun activities. A part of this trail, called the Shingobee Connection Trail, runs across the road from Miller Bay.
How Can You Visit Shingobee Bay?
There is a public place to launch boats on Shingobee Island. This island is crossed by Highway 371 on the north side of the bay. Even though the island is in the middle of the bay, the highway connects it to land on both sides. This makes it easy to get to!
Fishing in Shingobee Bay
Walker Bay, which includes Shingobee Bay, is the deepest part of Leech Lake. This deep water can be a good spot for fish! For example, in May 2010, many crappies were caught in Shingobee Bay. Crappies are a type of fish that many people enjoy catching.
