Shinji Otsuka, born on December 29, 1975, is a Japanese professional football manager. He used to be a football player himself. He is currently the manager of the Ventforet Kofu football club.

Shinji Otsuka's Playing Career
Shinji Otsuka was born in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. He started his football journey after finishing high school.
Early Club Days (1994-2000)
In 1994, Otsuka joined his local club, JEF United Ichihara. He did not play many matches there. In 1997, he moved to Kawasaki Frontale, a club in the Japan Football League.
At Kawasaki Frontale, he played many games as a defensive midfielder. His team did very well. They were promoted to the J2 League in 1999. Then, in 2000, they moved up to the top league, the J1 League.
Later Club Years (2001-2008)
In 2001, Otsuka joined Omiya Ardija. He played regularly in his first year there. However, he played less often from 2002 onwards.
He then moved to Montedio Yamagata in 2004. In 2006, he joined Consadole Sapporo. He was a regular player for both clubs until 2007.
In October 2007, Shinji Otsuka got injured. Because of this injury, he could hardly play in 2008. He decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 2008 season.
International Youth Football
In April 1995, Otsuka was chosen to be part of the Japan U-20 national team. This team played in the 1995 World Youth Championship. Even though he was selected, he did not play in any of the matches during the tournament.
Shinji Otsuka's Managerial Career
After retiring as a player, Shinji Otsuka started a new path in football as a coach. He worked as a coach at different clubs since 2009.
He became the head coach of Ventforet Kofu in 2022. In July 2024, he was named the manager of the club. This was his first time being the main manager of a team. He took over the role after the previous manager, Yoshiyuki Shinoda, left the club.
