Shinzo, called Mushrambo in Japan, is an exciting anime TV show made by Toei Animation. In this story, special creatures called Enterrans take over Earth. They even rename the planet Enterra!
Now, three brave Enterrans must protect the last human. Their big mission is to find a secret place called Shinzo. They hope this place can help bring humans back to Earth. The anime follows their amazing adventures as they try to complete this important task. Saban Entertainment and Buena Vista Television brought the series to English-speaking audiences.

The Story of Shinzo
This section tells you about the main story of Shinzo. It covers how the world changed and what the heroes need to do.
The Ancient Past
Long ago, a powerful guardian of the Milky Way galaxy, named Lanancuras, wanted more power. He could absorb parts of planets to become stronger. Because of this, he started attacking the worlds he was supposed to protect.
Many creatures from across the galaxy joined Lanancuras. They were called the Kadrians. Other Celestial Guardians tried to stop him, but he was too strong. They were defeated.
To stop Lanancuras, the other Guardians combined their powers. They created a new Guardian named Mushra. They used Mushra's core to make a powerful card. This card sealed Lanancuras in a giant prison. This prison was made from the remains of planets he had destroyed. The combined strength of these planets and the card kept him trapped in a huge meteorite.
Earth's New Inhabitants
The meteorite with Lanancuras was sent far into space. But his power had already affected the planets. On Earth, around the 22nd century, a virus appeared. It mixed with human DNA and started to destroy humans.
Scientists worked hard to find a cure. They mixed human DNA with animal DNA. This created a new race called Enterrans. These engineered Earthlings were based on humans, insects, reptiles, birds, sea creatures, and phantom beasts. Eventually, a cure was found, and humans survived.
However, Lanancuras's influence caused the Enterrans to fight humans. They also fought human-made robots. This almost wiped out the human race. Luckily, a scientist named Dr. Daigo Tatsuro put his 4-year-old daughter, Yakumo, into a sleep chamber. He hoped she would wake up and save humanity. Her mission was to find the human sanctuary Shinzo and bring peace back to Earth, now called Enterra.
When the meteorite carrying Lanancuras crashed on Earth, a piece of it hit baby Yakumo. This gave her special powers that she would discover later.
First Season: The Journey Begins
Yakumo wakes up 300 years later. She is now 17 years old. She soon meets Mushra, who is hanging above a waterfall for pretending to be a king. Yakumo saves him, and they quickly meet their other friends, Sago and Kutal.
Mushra, Sago, and Kutal are Hyper-Enterrans. This means they can transform into much stronger versions of themselves. These forms help them fight the many creatures that attack them.
In the first season, the main characters fight powerful Enterrans. These include the Seven Enterran Generals and other bounty hunters. Each General rules a different area. For example, King Daku's land has mostly insect-based Enterrans. When Enterrans are defeated, they turn into En-Cards. These cards can make other Enterrans or machines stronger, like Yakumo's vehicle, Hakuba.
Second Season: Changing the Future
Later, the timeline changes. This happens because Rusephine removes Mushrambo from the past. In this new timeline, the Human-Enterran war never happened. Humans and Enterrans learned to live together peacefully.
It was revealed that the Kadrians had planned to free Lanancuras. They thought crashing the meteorite into Earth would break his seal. The Guardians found out about this plan, but it was too late. The meteorite was already heading for Earth. The Guardians decided not to interfere directly. They believed it was up to Earth and its people to defeat Lanancuras.
The Kadrians' plan wasn't a complete success. The impact only ripped the seal. So, Lanancuras was still trapped by the planet pieces. In the first timeline, Lanancuras used a lot of energy to cause the Human-Enterran War. This kept him dormant. In the second timeline, without the war, he had more energy. He was about to break free from his prison.

Shinzo was released as both a manga and an anime.
Manga
A two-volume manga was created by Yoshihiro Iwamoto. It was published in Kodansha's Comic BonBon magazine. The manga's story is different from the anime. The anime has some sad parts, but the manga has a happier ending. In the manga, Mushra and Yakumo get married and have a child.

Inspiration for Shinzo
The Shinzo series is based on a very old Chinese story. It's from the 16th-century novel Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en. The story of Shinzo takes the events of this old tale and places them in a future science fiction world.
Here's how the characters from the old story are like those in Shinzo:
- Tang Sanzang becomes Yakumo. Her job is to bring back the human race, not to find sacred writings.
- Sha Wujing becomes Sago.
- Zhu Bajie becomes Kutal, who can turn into a lion.
- Sun Wukong becomes Mushra. He even keeps the character's golden headband and a staff that can get longer.
