Shoal Creek begins in the northern part of Habersham County, Georgia. Its starting point is south of a place called Lake Rabun.

From there, the creek flows south for about 2.6 miles (4.2 kilometers). Along its journey, it meets another stream called Alley Creek, which joins it from the east.

A little less than a mile further, Shoal Creek connects with Nerve Branch. It keeps flowing south for another 1.3 miles (2.1 kilometers). The creek then crosses State Route 197. Soon after, it flows into the Soque River, located west of the highway.

Understanding the Shoal Creek Area

The area that Shoal Creek and its connected waters drain is called a watershed. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has given this specific watershed a special code: HUC 031300010202.

This area is known as the Upper Soque River sub-watershed. It covers about 28 square miles (73 square kilometers). This watershed is west of Turnerville and north and east of the Soque River.

Besides Shoal Creek, other streams like Ben Tatum Branch and Porters Mill Branch also help drain this area. These streams flow into the Soque River further south, east of State Route 197.
