Shozo Tsugitani (born June 25, 1940 – died June 2, 1978) was a talented Japanese football player. He was known for playing as a Midfielder. Tsugitani played for the Japanese national team and for the club Mitsubishi Motors.

Shozo Tsugitani's Club Career

Shozo Tsugitani was born in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, on June 25, 1940. He loved playing football from a young age. After finishing his studies at Kwansei Gakuin University, he joined the football club Mitsubishi Motors in 1963.

In 1965, his team, Mitsubishi Motors, became part of a new and exciting league called the Japan Soccer League. Tsugitani played many games for his club. He retired from playing club football in 1967. During his time in the league, he played 40 games and scored 16 goals.

Playing for Japan: National Team Career

Shozo Tsugitani also played for his country, Japan. He made his first appearance for the Japanese national team on August 15, 1961. At that time, he was still a student at Kwansei Gakuin University. His first international match was against the Indonesian team.

He represented Japan at the 1962 Asian Games. In 1964, he was chosen to be part of the Japanese team for the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo. However, he did not get to play in any matches during the Olympics. He played a total of 12 games for Japan and scored 4 goals before he stopped playing for the national team in 1965.

Shozo Tsugitani passed away on June 2, 1978, in Kobe, Japan. He was 37 years old.
