Siamese Ponds are two beautiful lakes located in the Adirondack Park in New York. You can find them northwest of a small community called Oregon. These ponds are a wonderful place to visit if you love nature and fishing.
Exploring Siamese Ponds
Siamese Ponds are actually two separate lakes, often called the Upper Pond and the Lower Pond. They are both known for their clear waters and peaceful surroundings. The ponds are part of the larger Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area, which is a protected natural space.
What Fish Live Here?
Both the Upper and Lower Ponds are home to many different kinds of fish. If you enjoy fishing, you might catch:
- Rainbow trout: These fish are known for their colorful stripes.
- Black bullhead: A type of catfish, often found near the bottom.
- White sucker: These fish have mouths designed for feeding on the bottom.
- Lake trout: A large, cold-water fish, popular with anglers.
- Lake whitefish: Another fish that prefers cooler waters.
- Brook trout: A beautiful native trout, often found in clear streams.
- Sunfish: A common and fun fish to catch, known for their bright colors.
Getting to the Ponds
You can reach the ponds from County Route 8 (CR-8). There is a special spot on the east shore where you can get to the water. This is called "carry down access." It means you can walk your canoe, kayak, or small boat down to the water. You cannot drive a car or a trailer right up to the water's edge.
Rules for Boats
To keep the ponds peaceful and protect the environment, there's an important rule:
- No motors are allowed on these lakes. This means you can only use boats that are powered by paddles, oars, or sails. This helps keep the water clean and quiet for everyone, including the wildlife. It makes the ponds a great place for a calm day out on the water.
