Sibel Can's Early Life
Sibel Can was born in Karagümrük, a neighborhood in Fatih, Istanbul. She was the first child of Engin Cangüre and Emine Gül Sezer Cangüre. Her father was a talented violinist who came from Yugoslavia. He played music for many famous singers. Her mother was from a town called Mudanya.

When Sibel Can was only 14, she began her career as a belly dancer. She traveled all over Turkey with her father, performing as both a dancer and a singer. She performed in popular clubs like Galata Tower and Astorya.
When she was 17, she was invited to perform at a big casino called Maksim Casino. Because she was still very young, there were some legal issues. After a court case, her birth year was officially changed to 1964 so she could continue performing. At Maksim Casino, she worked alongside other famous singers.
In 1987, Sibel Can released her very first music album, called Günah Bize. A famous musician named Orhan Gencebay helped her create this album. By 1988, she was performing as a singer at Maksim Casino. Orhan Gencebay also produced her first few albums.
Sibel Can's Rise to Fame in the 1990s
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Sibel Can released a new album almost every year. In 1995, she signed a contract with a new music company. Her ninth album, Bu Devirde, came out in 1997. The main song from this album, "Padişah", was written by Serdar Ortaç.
After the album became very popular, Sibel Can released a music video for "Padişah". This video helped her gain a huge number of fans, and her album became the best-selling album in Turkey. Because of this success, she started performing in many concerts. Important people, including the President of Turkey at the time, praised her talent.
Sibel Can's Music from 2000 to Today
In 2000, Sibel Can released a new album called İşte Türk Sanat Müziği İşte Sibel Can. In 2001, she started working with a different production company. In 2002, she also acted in a movie called Papatya ile Karabiber.
Her 2006 album, Özledin mi?, sold 200,000 copies and received a special award called a diamond certification. At the award ceremony, she sang "Lale Devri" with Sezen Aksu, who wrote the song. In 2007, her album Akşam Sefası came out, featuring the popular song "Çakmak Çakmak". This song, written by Tarkan, was loved by many.
In 2009, she released Benim Adım Aşk, followed by Seyyah in 2011. The song "Hançer" from Seyyah became a big hit. In April 2012, she released another album called Meşk. Her twentieth album, Galata, came out in February 2014. Sibel Can also appeared in advertisements for a carpet brand for many years.
In April 2016, Sibel Can released her album Arabesque. All the songs on this album were composed by Burhan Bayar and had a classic 1980s Turkish style. She performed these new songs at concerts, sharing how Orhan Gencebay helped her discover her love for Arabesque music. At one concert, she even performed "Bağdat" with Ayla Çelik and "Günah Benim" with rappers Eypio and Burak King, mixing different music styles.
In October 2016, Sibel Can became a judge on the singing competition O Ses Türkiye. In November 2016, she won the award for Best Arabesque-Fantasy Music Artist. In 2017, she starred in a TV series called Sevda'nın Bahçesi.
In June 2018, her twenty-second album, Yeni Aşkım, was released. Critics noted that she included songs from different artists, showing her desire to offer various musical styles.
Sibel Can's Personal Life
Sibel Can married Hakan Ural in 1988. They had two children together, Engincan and Melisa. They divorced in 1999. A year later, she married Sulhi Aksüt, and they had a son named Emir. Sibel Can and Sulhi Aksüt divorced in 2010.
