Sidnaw is a small place in Michigan, United States. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it does not have its own local government. Sidnaw is located in southern Houghton County. It is part of Duncan Township. You can find Sidnaw along Highway M-28. It is about 21 miles (34 km) southwest of the town of L'Anse.
Sidnaw's Story: How It Began
Sidnaw was first started by lumber companies. They came to this area to cut down white pine trees. Thomas Nester was the first person to plan the community. He did this in the year 1889.
Sidnaw also had a train station. It was on the Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railway line. A post office opened in Sidnaw on December 7, 1889. George Garland was the first postmaster, or person in charge of the mail. The name "Sidnaw" comes from an American Indian word. It means "small hill by a creek."
