Sierra de Moncalvillo facts for kids

The Sierra de Moncalvillo are mountains located in La Rioja, Spain. They are part of a larger mountain system called the Sistema Ibérico. These mountains have peaks that rise above 1,200 meters (about 3,900 feet) high.
The highest point in the Sierra de Moncalvillo is Serradero, which stands at 1,495 meters (about 4,905 feet). Other important peaks include Neveras (1,424 meters) and Calva (1,261 meters). On the northern side of these mountains, you can find a special area known as Barranco del Colorado. From the peaks, you can see much of the valle del Ebro (Ebro Valley) in La Rioja.
These mountains act as a natural dividing line between two rivers: the Najerilla and the Iregua. Both of these rivers flow into the Ebro River. In 2016, the local government of Sojuela worked to restore several old ice cellars found in the mountains. They also improved the paths leading to these historical sites.
Plants and Trees of Moncalvillo
The slopes of the Moncalvillo Mountains are home to many different kinds of trees and plants. You will find a lot of pine trees, which are common in this area. There are also many beautiful holly trees and tall beech trees.
Less common, but still present, are two types of oak trees: the Valencian oak and the Pyrenean oak. These trees add to the rich plant life of the mountains.
