Sierraville is a small community in Sierra County, California, United States. Its name comes from two words: Sierra, which is Spanish for "mountain range," and Ville, which is French for "town." So, it means "mountain range town."
Sierraville is located at the southern end of the large Sierra Valley. This valley is mostly used for grazing animals. The town is also where two important roads, California State Route 49 and California State Route 89, meet.
Sierraville has its own post office with the ZIP code 96126. The post office first opened in 1862 under the name Sierra Valley. It was renamed Sierraville in 1899. In 2010, about 200 people lived here.
This town is famous for having the only traffic light in all of Sierra County! It's a flashing red light. It was taken down for a while in 2007 after a car accident but was put back up in 2008.
