The Story of Silcox Island
Silcox Island got its name from Albert Silcox. He was the first person to own the land here. At first, only he and his family lived on the island.
Over time, Albert Silcox needed to sell parts of the island. He started by selling land to his friends, like George Sells and his son-in-law, Earl Trowbridge. Slowly, more and more pieces of land were created and sold to other people.
Island Life: Power and Plumbing
For a long time, until 1968, Silcox Island did not have electricity or telephone service. Imagine living without lights or phones!
Then, a special cable was laid from near a place called Bill's Boathouse. After this, most homes on the island finally got electricity. This made life much easier for the people living there.
Even though some homes had modern plumbing, many people on the island used outhouses (outdoor toilets) for a long time. Some even used them into the 1980s!
