Silsbee is a town located in Hardin County, Texas. It is about 21 miles (34 km) north of Beaumont. In 2020, about 6,935 people lived there. Silsbee is part of the larger Beaumont–Port Arthur metropolitan area.

Exploring Silsbee's Location
Silsbee is in the eastern part of Hardin County. A major road, U.S. Route 96, goes around the southeastern edge of the town. This highway can take you 50 miles (80 km) northeast to Jasper. It also goes 21 miles (34 km) south to Beaumont. If you want to go to Houston, it's about 104 miles (167 km) southwest, passing through Beaumont.
Another important road, Texas State Highway 327, runs through the center of Silsbee. It goes east to U.S. Route 96. Westward, it leads about 9 miles (14 km) to Kountze. Kountze is the main town for Hardin County.
Land and Water Area
The United States Census Bureau says Silsbee covers a total area of about 7.7 square miles (20.0 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only about 0.05 square miles (0.12 square kilometers) is water.
How Silsbee Started
Silsbee was first called "Mill Town." This name came about when the Gulf, Beaumont, and Kansas City Railway reached the area in 1894. The town was later renamed to honor Nathaniel Devereux Silsbee. He was an investor from Boston, Massachusetts. He helped provide money for the railway project.
The railroad was a big project led by John Henry Kirby. He also started the Kirby Lumber Company in Silsbee. This company was the main employer in the town. It was very important to Silsbee's economy from the very beginning.
