The Story of Silver Diner
How It Started
Silver Diner began in 1989. Two friends, Bob Giaimo and Ype Von Hengst, opened the first restaurant. It was in Rockville, Maryland. That first restaurant became very successful. It made about $6 million in sales each year.
Growing Across the Mid-Atlantic
Today, Silver Diner Development LLC. runs 23 restaurants. These are spread across the Mid-Atlantic region. You can find them in New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. The company also provides jobs for over 1,700 people.
New Locations and Ideas
In 2007, Silver Diner opened its first restaurant at an airport. This was its sixteenth location overall. It opened in the AirMall at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI).
Later, in 2015, Silver Diner tried something new. They launched a different kind of restaurant called Silver. This new chain offered a more fancy, yet still casual, dining experience. It also featured special mixed drinks.
