The Silverado Resort and Spa is a large resort in Napa County, California, USA. It covers about 1,200 acres (4.9 square kilometers). This resort is famous for its golf courses, tennis courts, and spa. It is named after the Silverado Mine, which was a quicksilver (mercury) mine nearby. The resort is also one of the biggest employers in Napa County.
The area around the Silverado Resort is special. The United States Census Bureau calls it a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's a specific area used for counting people and gathering statistics. In 2010, about 1,095 people lived in this CDP.
In October 2017, wildfires caused some damage to parts of the resort. The fires started just hours after a golf tournament, the Safeway Open, had finished there.

Exploring the Silverado Country Club
The main building at the resort is a beautiful mansion built in the 1860s by General John Franklin Miller. In the 1960s, a company called Amfac, Inc. turned the property into a resort.
Over the years, the resort has had different owners. In 2010, famous professional golfer Johnny Miller became one of the new owners. He partnered with Roger Kent and Tim Wall. They hired Dolce Hotels and Resorts to manage the place.
Golf Course Improvements
Johnny Miller made many changes to the two main golf courses. He made the North Course longer by about 250 yards (229 meters). He also made the fairways wider, moved some bunkers (sand traps), and rebuilt the tee areas where players start each hole. He also improved the driving range, which is where golfers practice hitting the ball. In 2022, the resort was sold to KSL Capital Partners, LLC and Arcade Capital LLC.
Golf History at Silverado
The first 18-hole golf course at Silverado opened in 1955. This course is now known as the North Course. In 1966, a designer named Robert Trent Jones, Jr. updated the North Course and added the South Course.
Besides golf, the resort has many other features. It has 16 tennis courts, 10 swimming pools, and 280 guest rooms. There are also 300 privately owned homes on the resort grounds.
The Silverado Resort has hosted many important golf tournaments. The North Course held the Kaiser International Open Invitational from 1968 to 1976. It also hosted the Anheuser-Busch Golf Classic from 1977 to 1980.
Later, the South Course hosted Champions Tour events from 1989 to 2002. These events were known by names like Transamerica and Napa Valley Championship. The PGA Tour returned to the North Course in 2014 with the Frys.com Open, which is now called the Fortinet Championship. The resort has won the Distinguished Golf Destination Award for its excellent golf facilities.

Natural Features of the Resort Area
A stream called Milliken Creek flows through the Silverado Country Club. This creek eventually joins the Napa River. The area around the creek has about 7,300 acres (29.5 square kilometers) of vineyards.
Milliken Creek starts on the western slopes of the Napa Valley. A long time ago, much of this area was wild. Later, people started using the lower parts of the watershed for farming and grazing animals. In 1989, a study found that steelhead trout were still living in Milliken Creek, even within the Silverado Country Club.
