Early Life and Education

Later, he attended the University of Yaoundé. While there, he helped create the Student Association, which is still active today. He was also the very first president of this student group. After his studies in Cameroon, he continued his education in Marseille, France.
His Journey in Politics
Simon Achidi Achu started his public service as a state magistrate from 1965 to 1966. In 1971, he was appointed as a Minister Delegate. On July 3, 1972, President Ahmadou Ahidjo made him the Minister of Justice. He held this important position until 1975. After that, he returned to Santa and started a farm called Rock Farm Ranch.
He took a break from politics for several years. However, he later returned and was elected as a member of the National Assembly. This is like the country's parliament. President Paul Biya then appointed him Prime Minister on April 9, 1992. This happened after the parliamentary election in March 1992. He was the first Prime Minister of Cameroon who spoke English as his main language.
On October 10, 1992, just before the presidential election, Mr. Achu spoke on Cameroon Radio and Television. He spoke in French, which was his second language. He asked people to reject the opposition party. He wanted to prevent any possible violence and keep the country stable.
After President Biya won the 1992 election, Simon Achidi Achu continued as Prime Minister. He served until September 19, 1996. After his time as Prime Minister, he was appointed to lead the National Investment Corporation in 2003. This organization helps with investments in the country.

For example, in the 2004 presidential election, he was part of the team that supported the campaign in the Northwest Province. He also led the discipline committee for the CPDM.
In 2009, Mr. Achu became part of a special group called the Council of the Wise. This group helped the CPDM party plan ways to become stronger in the Northwest Province. This area was traditionally strong for the opposition party.
In April 2013, Simon Achidi Achu was elected to the Senate of Cameroon. He was the top candidate for the CPDM party in the Northwest Province. The Senate is another important part of the government. On June 12, 2013, when the Senate leaders were chosen, Mr. Achu became the Vice-President of the Senate.
