Simon Basher is an English artist, illustrator, and author. He lives in Amsterdam. He is famous for his illustrated children's reference books. His most well-known books are in the Basher Science series. This series includes The Periodic Table, which is the world's best-selling children's book about the elements.
Simon Basher's Journey
Simon Basher studied art and illustration at college. He graduated in 1992. After college, he was part of a rock/hip-hop band called Boasti. They had some success and toured with other bands.
Later, Simon worked as a musician for different record labels. He played music in London and New York City. He also toured a lot around the UK. In 1997, he performed at Wembley Stadium with the band Posh. From 1998, he managed musicians and artists. He also helped start a music venue called 93 Feet East.
Becoming an Illustrator
In 2000, Simon Basher went back to art and illustration. He started working under the name Basher. He created his unique manga-style characters. He showed and sold his original artwork and special prints. He had solo art shows in London in 2002 and 2006. In 2004, a clothing line with his Basher designs was launched.
In 2007, his first book in the Basher Science series was published. It was The Periodic Table. This book was very popular and received good reviews. Since then, he has published over 50 books. These books are part of eight different series. Some of these are Basher Science, History, Basics, and Go!Go! BoBo.
His art style is often called "graphic surrealism." His books are sold in more than twenty countries. They have sold almost 4 million copies worldwide. In 2017, a toy line based on Basher Science was launched in the US.
Basher's Books and Art
Simon Basher received a special degree in Graphic Design in 1992. He started writing and illustrating books in 2006. His goal was to make science fun and easy to understand.
His first book was Rocks and Minerals. He wrote it with illustrator Dan Green. It came out in December 2006. His second book was about the Periodic Table. It was titled Elements with Style!. This book was written with Adrian Dingle. It was published in 2007.
The Periodic Table got great reviews from Publishers Weekly and the Royal Society of Chemistry. It is the most successful of Basher's books. Dan Green works with Basher on most of his later books.
In 2011, Basher also started a series of books for very young children. This series is called Go!Go! BoBo.
