Simone Bitton (born January 3, 1955) is a talented filmmaker from France and Morocco. She is known for making documentary films. Her movies have won or been nominated for important awards. These include the César Award, the Marseille Festival of Documentary Film Award, and a special prize at the Sundance Film Festival for her film Mur.
About Simone Bitton's Life
Simone Bitton was born in Rabat, Morocco, in 1955. Her father was a Jewish jeweler. In 1966, her family moved to Israel. She served in the Israeli army during the Yom Kippur War. Simone describes herself as a Mizrahi Jew. This means she is a Jew from the Middle East or North Africa.
Later, she moved to France, where she mostly lives now. In 1981, she finished her studies at a famous film school. It is called the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques.
In December 2023, Simone Bitton joined over 50 other filmmakers. They signed a letter asking for peace and help for people in Gaza. They wanted fighting to stop and aid to reach those who needed it. They also asked for hostages to be released.
