Sir Daniel Dixon, 1st Baronet (born March 28, 1844 – died March 10, 1907) was an important Irish businessman and politician. He was known for leading a big shipping company and for serving as the Lord Mayor of Belfast multiple times. He also represented Belfast North in the British Parliament.

Early Life and Education
Daniel Dixon was born on March 28, 1844, in Larne, County Antrim, Ireland. His parents were Thomas and Sarah Dixon. His father was a merchant and owned ships.
Daniel went to school at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution. After finishing school, he joined his father's company, Thomas Dixon and Sons. This company dealt with timber, which is wood used for building. He became a partner in the family business in 1864.
A Leader in Belfast Politics
Sir Daniel Dixon had a very active career in politics. He served as the Mayor of Belfast in 1892. The next year, in 1893, he became the first ever Lord Mayor of Belfast. He held this important role three more times: from 1901 to 1903, and again from 1905 to 1906.
Being Lord Mayor meant he was the main leader of the city. He helped make important decisions for Belfast. He was also a Member of Parliament (MP) for Belfast North. He served as an MP from 1905 until 1907. As an MP, he represented the people of Belfast in the British Parliament. He was part of the Irish Unionist Alliance political group.
In 1902, Daniel Dixon was given a special honor. He was appointed to the Privy Council of Ireland. This was a group of important advisors to the King or Queen. In 1903, he received another high honor when he was made a Baronet. This title meant he was given the hereditary title of "Sir" and could pass it down to his eldest son.
Successful Businessman
Besides his political roles, Daniel Dixon was a very successful businessman. He was the head of one of the largest shipping companies in Ireland. This company owned many ships and played a big part in moving goods and people by sea. His business helped Belfast grow as an important port city.
Family and Legacy
Daniel Dixon was married twice. His first wife was Lizzie Agnew, whom he married in 1867. Sadly, Lizzie passed away in 1868. In 1870, he married his second wife, Annie Shaw.
Sir Daniel Dixon died on March 10, 1907, in Belfast. He was 62 years old. After his death, his eldest son, Thomas, inherited his title and became the 2nd Baronet. Lady Dixon, his second wife Annie, passed away in 1918.
