His Early Life
Edward Howard was born on October 19, 1915. His father was Sir Seymour Howard, 1st Baronet. His mother was Edith Maud Turner. He went to school in Switzerland at Institut Le Rosey. He also studied at Radley College and Worcester College, Oxford in England. During the Second World War, he served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
His Business Work
Sir Edward worked as a stockbroker at the London Stock Exchange. A stockbroker helps people buy and sell shares in companies. He was also an entrepreneur, which means he started or grew businesses. He bought a small company called Eucryl from Southampton. This company made tooth powder. He helped it become a very successful company.
From 1971 to 1982, he was the Chairman of the London Rubber Company. This company later became known as SSL International. Later, he was a Senior Partner and Chairman at Charles Stanley Group (LSE: CAY). He also led the Advanced Electronics Company Limited.
His Public Service
Sir Edward served as an Alderman for the City of London. An Alderman is a senior member of the city's government. In 1966, he became the Sheriff of the City of London. The Sheriff is an important official in the city.
Later, he served as the Lord Mayor of London from 1971 to 1972. The Lord Mayor is the head of the City of London Corporation. It is a very old and important role. From 1976 to 1990, he was also a Lieutenant of the City of London.
In 1967, he became the 2nd Howard baronets of Great Rissington. This is a special title passed down in families. In 1972, he received two important honors. He became a Knight of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (KStJ). Later that year, he became a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire. These honors are given for great public service.
His Family Life
Sir Edward married Elizabeth Howarth Ludlow on July 10, 1943. They had two sons:

- John Ludlow Seymour Howard (born 1948)
They lived in an area called the North Downs. Sir Edward Howard passed away on March 16, 2001.
