Sir Harbottle Grimston, 1st Baronet (born around 1569 – died 1648) was an English politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like today's Parliament, for many years between 1614 and 1648. He supported the Parliamentarian side during the English Civil War.
Sir Harbottle Grimston was the grandson of Edward Grimston, who was also a Member of Parliament (MP). On November 25, 1611, he was given the title of Baronet of Bradfield in the County of Essex. A Baronet is a special title, like a knight, that can be passed down in a family.

Sir Harbottle Grimston was very involved in the government of his time.
Early Political Roles
In 1614, he served as the High Sheriff of Essex. A High Sheriff was a very important local official, responsible for law and order in the county. In the same year, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for the town of Harwich.
Serving in Parliament
In 1626, Sir Harbottle was elected as an MP for the larger area of Essex. He was re-elected in 1628. He held this position until 1629. At that time, King Charles I decided to rule England without Parliament for eleven years.
When Parliament was called back, Sir Harbottle was re-elected as an MP for Essex in April 1640. This Parliament was known as the Short Parliament because it didn't last long. Later that same year, in November 1640, he was elected MP for Harwich again. This Parliament was called the Long Parliament because it lasted for many years. He continued to serve as an MP until he passed away in 1648.
Supporting Parliament
During the English Civil War, which was a big conflict in England, Sir Harbottle Grimston supported the Parliamentarian side. This side was also known as the Roundheads. They were fighting against King Charles I.
Family Life
Sir Harbottle Grimston married Elizabeth Coppenger. She was the daughter of Ralph Coppenger from Kent. They had five sons together. Their second son, also named Harbottle, became the 2nd Baronet after his father's death.
