Sir Hector Munro, 11th Baronet facts for kids
Colonel Sir Hector Munro (born September 13, 1848 – died 1935) was an important Scottish leader and military officer. He was the 32nd Chief of the Scottish Highland Clan Munro. He also held the titles of 29th Baron and 11th Baronet of Foulis, which are old noble titles.
Sir Hector Munro's Life and Career
Sir Hector Munro was born on September 13, 1848. He studied at the Academy and University of Edinburgh. He joined the military as a Captain in the Ross-shire Militia on January 31, 1871. This group later became the 3rd (Militia) Battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders.
He was promoted to lieutenant-colonel on March 25, 1885. When the Second Boer War began in 1899, many regular British army groups went to South Africa. Militia groups, like the 3rd Seaforth Highlanders, helped in other parts of the British Empire. Sir Hector Munro commanded his battalion when they went to Egypt in February 1900.
Sir Hector Munro also served his local community. He was the Vice-Convener for Ross and Cromarty county. He chaired the Mid Ross District, where his family estate was located. For many years, he led the School Board in his area. He was also a Deputy Lieutenant and a Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Ross-shire. These roles meant he helped with local government and law.
Sir Hector was also a member of the Freemasons, a social and charitable organization. He was the Master of the Fingal Lodge in Dingwall for several years. In 1890, he became the leader for all Freemasons in Ross and Cromarty.
In 1902, Sir Hector was chosen to be an aide-de-camp (a personal assistant) to King Edward VII. This was a special honor given during the 1902 Coronation Honours. He was also promoted to the rank of colonel. He served the King until 1910. After King Edward VII passed away, Sir Hector continued as an aide-de-camp for King George V starting in 1910.

Sir Hector Munro married Margaret Violet Stirling on April 7, 1880. She was the oldest daughter of John Stirling.
They had six children:

- Hector Charles Seymour Munro (who died during World War I)
- Eva Marion Munro (who became the leader of Clan Munro, but not the Baronetcy title)
