Sir Hugh McManus O'Donnell (in Irish: Sir Aodh mac Maghnusa Ó Domhnaill) was an important Irish leader. He was known as The O'Donnell of his family, the O'Donnell clan. He was also the king of Tyrconnell in Ireland during medieval times. He passed away around the year 1600.
Hugh's Life as a Leader
Hugh O'Donnell was married to a woman named Iníon Dubh. In the 1580s, there was a big disagreement within the O'Donnell family. They argued about who should become the next leader after Hugh.
In 1592, Hugh decided to give up his role as king. He chose his oldest son, Hugh Roe O'Donnell, to take over. Hugh Roe was the son from his second marriage. After this, Hugh lived a quiet life. He passed away around the year 1600. This was during a time when a major conflict called Tyrone's Rebellion was happening in Ireland.
