Sir Thomas Osborne was the oldest son of Nicholas Osborne (1620–1696). His father worked as the Clerk of the Crown of Ireland, which was a significant legal job. The family lived in a place called Cappagh, County Tyrone.
Early Life and Career
Sir Thomas Osborne served as the High Sheriff of County Waterford from 1672 to 1673. This was an important role, like being the chief law enforcement officer for the county. In 1679, he was made a knight, which meant he was given a special title by the King or Queen for his service.
Becoming a Baronet
Sir Thomas was the grandson of the very first baronet in his family, Sir Richard Osborne, 1st Baronet. A baronet is a special hereditary title, like a knight, but it can be passed down through the family. Sir Thomas became the 5th Baronet in October 1713, after his cousin, the 4th Baronet, passed away.
