Skara Municipality (which is Skara kommun in Swedish) is a special local area in Västra Götaland County, located in western Sweden. It's like a local government area. The main town and administrative center of this municipality is the city of Skara.
Long ago, the area that is now Skara Municipality was made up of 16 smaller local government areas. In 1952, these smaller areas were grouped together into four new, bigger areas. Then, in 1971, the City of Skara joined with these rural areas to create the single municipality we know today.
