Derrick Hutchins Jr., known by his stage name Skhye Hutch, is an American hip hop record producer from Los Angeles, California. He has been nominated for a Grammy Award two times. Skhye Hutch went to Pacific Palisades High School and finished his studies at the Musicians Institute in 2004.
He started his career working with a music production team called The Underdogs. During this time, he met other important people in music, like Rob Knox and groups such as 1500 or Nothin'.
What is Skhye Hutch's Music Career Like?
In 2007, Skhye Hutch signed his first big deal with Mad Heaven. He worked as a producer and artist for a group called Reign Major. This group released an album named Growing Pains, and Skhye produced almost all the songs on it.
Working with Top Dawg Entertainment
Skhye Hutch was introduced to the independent record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) by producer Tae Beast. TDE is known for its talented artists, including the group Black Hippy. This connection happened around the time of the Section.80 mix-tape.
In 2010, Skhye Hutch produced a song called "Space Bars" for Curtiss King. This song featured the artist Ab-Soul.
Major Success in 2012
The year 2012 was very important for Skhye Hutch. He started working with TDE artists on their solo projects.
Producing for Ab-Soul
Skhye produced three hip hop songs for Ab-Soul's first album, Control System. These songs included the popular single "ILLuminate," as well as "Empathy" and "Beautiful Death."
Producing for Kendrick Lamar
Building on his success, Skhye Hutch also produced a song called "Dying of Thirst" for Kendrick Lamar's highly anticipated album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, which came out in 2012. This album was nominated for five awards at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, including Album of The Year.
Later Projects and Collaborations
Skhye Hutch continued to work with Curtiss King on his album Atychiphobia, producing the song "The Bottom."
In 2013, Skhye Hutch and Tae Beast started their own music production company called WeirrdPeople. They worked together on several tracks for J-GO's album Mr.Goins II.
Projects in 2014
In 2014, Skhye Hutch worked with Ab-Soul again on the album These Days..., producing the song "Feeling Us." He also contributed to Logic's album Under Pressure, which was featured on iTunes as a top hip hop album. Skhye co-produced the song "Growing Pains III" on this album.
He also produced "Gold Chains In a Dungeon" for the artist Euro League and "Eat Sleep and Die" for MC Jin's album, XIV:LIX.
Projects in 2015
In 2015, Skhye Hutch worked with Jay IDK on songs like "Dirty Scale" and "God Said Trap." He also produced for Jay Rock's album, 90059. The song "Easy Bake," featuring Kendrick Lamar and SZA, was played on Sirius XM's Shade 45. Skhye also produced "NO FCKS" for Shawn Chrys and "Flicker" for Ash Riser.
