Slavia is a small, unincorporated community located in Seminole County, Florida, United States. Being "unincorporated" means it's not officially a city or town with its own local government, but it's still a recognized place where people live. You can find Slavia along State Road 426, close to the city of Oviedo.

A Look Back: How Slavia Started

Slavia has a really interesting history that began over a hundred years ago! In 1911, a group of people called Slovaks decided to create a new home in Florida. These Slovaks were followers of the Lutheran Christian faith. They originally came from a part of Europe that was then known as the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which is now the country of Slovakia.

Before moving to Florida, many of these Slovaks were living in Cleveland, Ohio. They formed a special group called the Slavia Colony Company. Their big goal was to establish a new community in Florida where they could live and work together. This is how the community of Slavia was born, carrying a piece of Slovak history all the way to Florida!

Cool Places to See in Slavia

Even though Slavia is a small area, it has a few notable places that are important to its history and community.

  • Lukas Nursery and Butterfly Encounter: This is a popular spot where you can explore plants and even see beautiful butterflies up close.
  • St. Lukes Lutheran Church and School: These places are very important to the community. They show the strong connection Slavia has to its Slovak heritage and the Lutheran faith that was brought by its original settlers.
