Slick Rock is a small, quiet place in western Colorado, United States. It's not a city or town with its own government, but rather an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings that are part of a larger county, San Miguel County, instead of having its own mayor and city council. Slick Rock gets its name from the smooth, "slick" sandstone rocks you can find all around it. It's also located right next to the beautiful Dolores River.
A Look Back in Time
Slick Rock wasn't always called Slick Rock! This community was first known as Gladel. A post office opened in Gladel in 1922, helping people send and receive mail. However, this post office closed just seven years later, in 1929.
Later, in 1941, a new post office opened in the same area, but this time it was named Slick Rock. This post office also closed eventually. Today, people living in Slick Rock get their mail through the Egnar post office, which uses the ZIP code 81325.
