The Slippery Noodle Inn is a famous blues music club and restaurant in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. It's known for being the oldest bar that has been open non-stop in Indiana. It first opened its doors in 1850 as the Tremont House.
Discovering the Slippery Noodle Inn
The Slippery Noodle Inn is a large place with two stages for live music. It's a very important spot for blues music in its area. Many famous blues musicians have played there over the years.
A Long History
This building has a very interesting past. During the American Civil War, it was a secret stop on the Underground Railroad. This was a network of safe places for enslaved people seeking freedom.
Later, during a time called Prohibition, it was officially a restaurant. But people secretly made and sold drinks in the basement. It has always been a place where people could gather.
Inside the Historic Building
The Slippery Noodle Inn is the oldest commercial building in Indianapolis. You can still see parts of its history inside. The ceiling, made of tin, was put in way back in 1890. The big oak bar is also more than 100 years old.
The Inn has been called the Slippery Noodle Inn since 1963. It continues to be a popular place for people to enjoy live blues music.
