Early Life and Learning
Smiljan Radić was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1965. His family has roots in different parts of the world. His grandfather came to Chile from the island of Brač in Croatia in 1919. His mother's family came from the United Kingdom.
He studied architecture at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and finished his degree in 1989. After that, he traveled around Europe and studied history in Venice, Italy, at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia. Building a Career in Architecture
In 1995, Smiljan Radić started his own architecture studio in Santiago. Even though his studio has always been small, he has created many amazing projects. These projects are not just in Chile but also in other countries.
During his university days, he met a talented sculptor named Marcela Correa. They later got married and have worked together on several projects. One of their first collaborations was Casa Chica (Small House) in Vilches, Chile, built in 1997. It was a small, special house built high up in the Andes mountains.

Some of Radić's first projects were homes in Chile. These include Copper House 2 in Talca (2004–2005) and Pite House in Papudo (2003–2005). Later, he started designing cultural buildings, public spaces, and even temporary art installations.
For example, he designed the special Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London in 2014. This structure looked like a giant, see-through shell made of fiberglass. It was held up by large, natural stones. In 2017, Radić also started the Fundación de Arquitectura Frágil in Santiago. This foundation helps organize exhibitions and research about new and experimental architecture ideas. Other important projects include the Regional Theater of Bío-Bío in Concepción, Chile (2018) and NAVE, a performing arts center in Santiago.
