Snow Valley Ski Club is a fun place to ski and snowboard in Edmonton, Alberta. It's located near the Whitemud Freeway in Rainbow Valley. This ski area is run by a group that doesn't aim to make a profit. It's a great spot for beginners, with most of its slopes designed for those just learning. Only a small part of the area is for advanced skiers.
Snow Valley has four lifts to get you up the hill. These include one special "pulse" quad chairlift, one triple chairlift, and two magic carpets. You can also find cool features and jumps in their beginner and advanced terrain parks.

The Story of Snow Valley
Snow Valley first opened its doors in 1961. It was started by members of the Eskimo Ski Club. The first main building, called a lodge, was built in 1972. Back then, skiers used two rope tows to get up the hill.
In 1981, a T-bar lift replaced one of the rope tows. Snow Valley also started making some of its own snow to keep the ski season going longer. By 1988, a Triple chairlift was added, and they could make even more snow. A lot of extra dirt was brought in to build up the North Hill, which is now where the terrain park is located.
In the summer of 1995, Snow Valley started looking after the nearby Rainbow Valley Campground. This campground is open during the warmer months when there's no snow for skiing.
A brand new, much bigger lodge was built in 2001. It replaced the old lodge and maintenance buildings. That same year, the first magic carpet lift was added. A second magic carpet replaced another old lift in 2003.
In 2008, Snow Valley got a new, fast "pulse" quad chairlift. This special lift was the first of its kind in Canada. It replaced the T-bar and opened up even more areas for skiing and snowboarding.
Fun in the Summer
When the snow melts, Snow Valley Ski Club still offers exciting activities. These summer attractions have been around for more than three years.
Snow Valley Aerial Park: An Adventure in the Sky
The Snow Valley Aerial Park is a tall adventure tower, standing 15 meters (about 50 feet) high. It was built by a company from Germany and is run by Snow Valley Ski Club. This tower was the first of its kind in Canada. It has about 100 different challenges and obstacles, many with Edmonton themes. The Aerial Park opened in 2017.
Rainbow Valley Campground: Camp Under the Stars
The Rainbow Valley Campground has been a popular camping spot in Alberta for a long time. It was open even before the 1970s. Today, the campground has over 75 places to set up your tent or park your RV. It's open every year from May until October.
